Once you have your files unzipped or untarred into your preferred directory
check to see that you have caxton.jar, flickrmosaic.bat/sh flickrmosaic.jar, groups.properties, LICENSE-2.0.txt, log4j-1.2.8.jar, xalan.jar, xercesImpl.jar, xml-apis.jar.
Then you can run it either from flickrmosaic.bat or flickrmosaic.sh
You should be presented with this.
Clip Art Width
This defaults to 100. Will try and set the thumbnail to this width when it adds it to the finished image. This will not change the thumbnail stored on your PC.
Clip Art Height
This defaults to 100. Will try and set the thumbnail to this height when it adds it to the finished image. This will not change the thumbnail stored on your PC.
Subsampling
Can be used to try and match more closely the thumbnail with the area of the image in which it is placed. At present breaks thumbnail into 2 x 2 grid as well as the area in which it will try to match
Ignore Duplicates
Set to true will allow duplicate thumbnails to be used. Set to false to ensure each image is unique. If you start hitting white patches increase the tolerance
Ignore Color
Selecting a color from the source image and set to true will prevent areas within a block of the size of the thumbnail which is all the same colour to remain as that colour. Set to false will ignore this feature
See image below
Set clip dir
Sets the directory to where either thumbnails will be downloaded or from where they are selected.
Select Source Image
Set the image from which the mosaic will be created.
Get flickr thumbs
Opens up a new window to allow you to download thumbnails from flickr. You will need to select the relevant group and enter your username and password before being able to download them.
This may take some time depending on the speed of your connection and the size of the group pool.
Save image
Save the image as a jpeg.
Other things you can do
find out the ids for other pools. Add them and a meaningful name to the groups.properties file so you can download them and creat a mosaic.
